Honorable Mentions

Brian Poole Age: 27 – The Jets should actually really resign Poole. He was the best cornerback on their team last season and did a tremendous job covering the slot.

There are better guys out there though so he didn’t crack the top five.

Ronald Darby Age:26 -Darby has been injury-prone and missed 20 games in the past three seasons. However, he is still very young and could a low-risk high reward option for the New York Jets.

5. Jimmy Smith, Age 31

As stated earlier the Jets do not necessarily need a big star cornerback. They are looking for the final two pieces to become an elite defense. Jimmy Smith is someone with experience not only in the regular season but in the playoffs as well. He was part of the Ravens when they won the Super Bowl.

Smith has also been injury-prone over the course of his career but that could make him much cheaper. He is very versatile as his size and speed allow him to cover big-name wide receivers or tight ends. While this isn’t necessarily a young defense, his experience could help the team with several players who have never been to the playoffs.
