New York Jets 2020 three round Mock Draft internet compilation 3.0 – Mid-Feb
By Ed Stein
Round 3, 68th and 79th overall
The Jets acquired pick number 68 when they shipped defensive end Leonard Williams, to NYG at the trade deadline. It was unlikely the team and their former 2015 first-rounder from USC would have agreed to a new deal when his contract expired at the conclusion of the season. At that point, Gang Green would have received a compensatory pick at the end of the third round. So this trade moved them up some 30 spots.
Figuring out how the draft plays out gets to be more and more of a crapshoot in the third round. Believe it or not, more than one site was in agreement for who the New York Jets would select 68th, center Lloyd Cushenberry III from LSU. No other player showed up more than once over both third-round selections.
One of the better interior offensive linemen in the draft, Cushenberry is a borderline late second to an early third-round pick. He has good size for a center at 6-4, 305-pounds and is a force in the running game. Not only is he a good player, but Cushenberry is known for his leadership and good character.
"Cushenberry has a solid build and great length for the center position. He is quick off of the ball and shows good overall athleticism for an interior offensive lineman. He shows off his impressive quickness and play speed when blocking at the second level, getting into position quickly and blocking the second-level defender under control. – Dan Schmelzer, NFL Mocks. Other players who showed up in mocks as a possible Gang Green third-round pick include Troy Pride Jr., CB, Notre Dame; Gabriel Davis, WR, Central Florida; KJ Hamler, WR, Penn State; Nick Harris, C, Washington; Marlon Davidson, DL, Auburn; Keith Ismael, C, San Diego State; Darrell Taylor, Edge, Tennessee; Curtis Weaver, Edge, Boise State; Josh Uche, OLB, Michigan; Alex Highsmith, DE, UNC–Charlotte; Rashard Lawrence, DT, LSU; Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn.
If Curtis Weaver is still available in the third-round, Douglas has to take him. The Boise State edge rusher has been a high second-day pick in some mocks. Of all the edge rushers in the 2020 draft, Weaver has the most career sacks with 34.
