Last Week

The New York Guardians opened up their season by beating up on Tampa at home, 23-3. Defense was the key for NYG as they bent but never broke. They caused three turnovers and forced the Vipers into mistakes. Offensively quarterback Matt McGloin threw to seven different targets. He had some struggles connecting deep. But the team still gained 229 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns.

DC also put a hurting on their visitors in week one, defeating Seattle 31-19. Defenders quarterback Cardale Jones threw for a pair of TDs and didn’t turn the ball over. Wide receiver Rashad Ross and tight end Khari Lee each caught a touchdown pass. Their defense recovered a fumble and had a pick to help keep Seattle at bey.

What to watch for

New York’s offense still has some kinks to work out. There is plenty of work left to be done to get the running game going and quarterback Matt McGloin has to do a better job of connecting deep as his receivers can get separation downfield. Additionally, the offensive line, now down two members, due to injury, must do a better job opening holes for their running backs.

DC’s offense is very good. It will be interesting to see how the New York Guardians highly regarded secondary stacks up against Jones and his dangerous receiving corps. Additionally, the Guardians recorded five sacks last week but had issues when Tampa inserted a more mobile quarterback. It is vital for them to keep Jones in the pocket.

Our partners at The Action Network like DC to cover in this one. However, even they acknowledge that picking games this early in a new league is hard due to so many unknowns.
