New York Mets Spring Training brings out the kid in me

Meeting the stars
Other media celebrities included Mets radio voice Ed Coleman, New York Post columnist Joel Sherman, and MLB Network and FOX commentator Ken Rosenthal. It’s Spring Training and we are in a relaxed environment. I so enjoy their work and I was able to take pictures with them too.
Later on, I run into Mets General Manager Brodie van Wagenen and told him I’ll see him in October. Then I took a picture with Phil Regan. Yes, the same 82-year-old Phil Regan that righted the Mets pitching staff in the second half of last season.
Finally, we walk to the other diamond and I notice a familiar face. It’s JD Davis. I quickly called out to him. I said, “JD, I got your jersey! Would you mind signing it?” He walked over to me saying, “Sure.” I told him how much I like him and how I followed his brief Mets career.
You can say I have a man-crush. I told him I got the jersey when my wife and I went to Citi Field last summer and he came through against the Nats. He smiled and thanked me. Imagine that? I thanked him and wished him the best. I think he is going to have a great season and I hope he plays a lot. He earned it.

I finish my time with Dom Smith signing my ball and taking a picture with me. Dom is a genuine individual who took the time to sign for little kids and take pictures. Teams need more players like him. I know he won’t see much time with Peter Alonso at first, but he is a valuable player and person to have in the clubhouse. A key ingredient to the chemistry of this team, both on and off the field.
So this was my day. It went off without a hitch. I had interaction with media personnel, New York Mets management, players, and coaches. Today, I was just a fan, a kid from New York that refuses to grow up. Baseball is back for 2020 and guys like Michael Conforto, Dom Smith, and JD Davis are living a dream.
As my friend and I drive back to the West Coast, I realize I am living the dream too.
