This is the sixth edition of our 2019-2020 Big East Conference Basketball Power Rankings. A local favorite is back on top.

Xavier’s Big East stock is rising, Seton Hall is playing some dominant basketball at home and most certainly on the road and St. John’s continues to plummet into the abyss known as the bottom feeder of the conference standings.

However, five teams found themselves ranked in the latest AP Top 25 Poll. That hasn’t happened in almost seven years. It shows that after some lean years, the Big East, as a whole, is on the way back to being a major player in NCAA men’s basketball.

There were genuinely some really great battles last week. Georgetown narrowly held off pesky DePaul at home. It was the same for the X-Men as they overcame Providence. In the marquee game, Seton Hall went into Philly and beat Villanova.

This week will prove to be the same. My top three games to watch this week: Xavier at Butler, Creighton at Seton Hall and Seton Hall at Providence.

10. DePaul Blue Demons (1-10 Big East, 13-11 overall)

I honestly don’t know what to write about the Blue Demons anymore. What seemed like an early feel-good story of the college basketball season quickly turned into a horror show for Dave Leitao‘s squad. They’ve been competitive for a bulk of conference action, yet DePaul had failed to improve on the losses.

Unless something drastically changes, the Blue Devils will have their fourth losing season out of the last five. I do think Leitao might be in search of a new job once the Big East Tournament champion is crowned. Since he returned to the Chicago school in 2015, Leito is 61-93.
