New York Mets star pitcher Jacob deGrom and newly acquired New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole headline MLB Network’s top ten pitchers in baseball right now list, ranking numbers one and three respectively.
Every year the MLB Network ranks who they believe are presently the top ten players at each position. They recently published their top ten pitchers in baseball right now. Jacob deGrom, the homegrown New York Mets superstar ace, and Gerrit Cole who recently signed with the New York Yankees as a free agent, ranked first and third respectively, on the list.
All eyes will be on both deGrom and Cole in New York, as the two aces attempt to lead the crosstown rivals through the 162 game grind and into contention for a world title. Cole has the upper hand though, pitching for a team that has the 21st Century version of “Murderers Row.” backing him up. The New York Yankees finished last season fifth in batting average, second in home runs and RBIs, third in OPS, and first in both total runs scored, and runs per game.
As a die-hard New York Mets fan but also a realist, I can honestly say the Mets lineup has the potential to be potent. But they fall far short when stacked up side by side against the Bronx Bombers, let alone their National League East Division rivals. The starting rotation and bullpen are the keys to success and it all starts with DeGrom.
So the question I have for baseball fans, in particular, Mets and Yankees fans, who is the best present-day starting pitcher in New York? If you had to give the ball to someone for a key start would it be deGrom or Cole? Let’s look at both aces.
