Once again, the New York Giants hold a top pick in the NFL Draft. This year, at fourth, the G-Men have the opportunity to take a versatile National Champion with that pick.

With the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Giants have the opportunity to select a player who could help them out in a large way. Thy first have to decide what position he will play.

One position group Big Blue struggle with is their secondary. If they want to help out the unit, Isaiah Simmons might be a player they consider.

Simmons was a key part of Clemson secondary that led them to the National Championship game this past season. The hybrid player totaled three interceptions, eight sacks, 104 tackles, two forced fumbles and eight passes defended.

Just like the reasons as to why the New York Giants should take cornerback Jeff Okudah, the G-Men could use Simmons as well, due to their problems in the secondary. Adding him to the secondary could help Big Blue greatly in the defensive backfield.

Simmons is a talented player who can cover anyone you put him up against whether it be a receiver, tight end or running back, he can also rush the quarterback with ease. Additionally, he can hold his ground in both man or zone coverages and can change his direction in a split second.

The only flaw several people have pointed out is his lack of ability to shed blocks. A skill that can be improved upon with good coaching and hard work.

Simmons, who likely would’ve been a low first or early second round pick in last year’s draft, decided to return to Clemson for his junior year after redshirting as a freshman. This, if anything, was a smart decision because he improved greatly in 2019 and is a lock for the top-10 selection in this year’s draft.

The question, however, is where in the top-10 that will be. His unteachable qualities make him a fantastic player that will improve any team’s secondary that decides to take a chance on him.

His ability to be placed at either linebacker or safety slot makes him such a desirable player to have on the team. If Jeff Okudah comes off the board by the time the Giants are on the clock, Simmons should be the next name on their list.
