A point guard to lead the way

I believe the Knicks should do is select a point guard in this year’s draft. There isn’t really a lock for the #1 pick in this year’s draft, but if the Knicks get the number one pick, in the lottery, I can’t see them taking someone other than LaMelo Ball.

Ball was one of the most hyped-up players out of high school in a very long time. He will bring the swagger, the style, and excitement that has been at Madison Square Garden for some time. Just like his brother Lonzo, LaMelo as been in the spotlight ever since he was a freshman in high school playing with his two brothers on Chino Hills.

LaMelo will make everyone around him better with elite vision and playmaking ability.  I truly believe his shot will come whether it is early or later in his career, but when it comes, watch out.

He may be a risky pick for teams rebuilding but for the Knicks, who look lost with what they are trying to do, this is a no-brainer pick. LaMelo, regardless if he is as good as he is hyped up to be, will fill the seats at the Garden. There will be a run on New York Knicks jerseys at the fan shop. He will give MSG life and hope.

If the Knicks draft LaMelo, everyone who takes the court with him will benefit. RJ Barrett finally gets the space he needs to create on his own and in transition. Mitchell Robinson will have more opportunities to pound the boards, and if Kevin Knox is still on the team, I can see him getting more open looks. Then there is the added bonus of Julius Randle not playing point forward anymore.

If things don’t go smoothly and the Knicks don’t have a pick to take him and another team that he doesn’t fit in with has the pick, NYK should100% trade for that pick and take him.  I do not know what the cost would be and depending on the team it might vary, but I believe the Knicks should be all in on LaMelo Ball and hand him and RJ the keys to the backcourt.
