4. Kobe vs. Michael Jordan All-Star Game

The 1998 All-Star game was held at Madison Square Garden. Granted, Kobe did not face off against the Knicks. I had to add this one given the significance of Kobe competing against his idol, Michael Jordan.

At this time in my life, I was in third grade and did not understand the significance of this game. But looking back at this game now and watching the highlights, I could only imagine why NBA fanatics could not wait to watch this matchup.

With Kobe’s mentality to be the best at his sport, he made it known that he wanted to surpass Michael Jordan as one of the greatest NBA players of all time. And, for him to be the best, he had to beat the best.

He put his determination to the test as he squared up and went toe-to-toe with Jordan. The East would be victorious (135-114), but Kobe finished the game with 18 PTS, 6 REB, 1 AST, while Jordan had 23 PTS, 6 REB, 8 AST.
