New York Knicks: The front office and it’s broken promises

On April 3, 2019, the New York Knicks  President Steve Mills made a promise to the New York fans on how they would develop the team moving forward. Then they fired David Fizdale, the coach they hired for the development. It has fallen apart, and now they have nothing to say.

In a letter shared by a season ticket holder from the New York Knicks President on Twitter, Steve Mills made a promise to “not skip a single beat” in the development of the team.

"The commitment we are making to our fans is that we will not skip a single step in the development process of our players. We will continue to focus on the draft in an attempt to replicate the type of players we added last summer."

The New York Knicks front office has been tranquil since they fired David Fizdale on December 6, 2019. No impromptu press conferences on how the team is doing or whether or not it’s meeting their expectations or have improved in their eyes after the firing.

When they hired Fizdale, they assured the fans of the players’ development of building the franchise the right way. Scott Perry told fans:

"We are putting a team on the floor that is tough-minded, defensive oriented, that is gonna compete every single night, reflecting accountability on and off the basketball floor. A team that is going to play together on the offensive end, share the basketball and play with some pace."

I didn’t hear him say that the team would make the playoffs or win any certain amount of games during the next season. They said they’d keep developing the team the same way they did with the 2018 draft picks. Why? Were they so sure of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving playing in the Garden? Instead of being happy that they dodged a bullet in not signing Irving, they fired the development coach.

Now they have Interim Head Coach Miller. The team is 12-34. The players they promised to develop are sitting on the bench. The Knicks are the third worse team in the NBA, and half the season is gone.

The trade deadline is fastly approaching. Are they going to continue to break promises by trading off their young players? Players like Marcus Morris, Sr. are great for the locker room. Just watching him with the young ones on the floor, anyone can see that they listen to him and respect him. They acknowledge what he says, and then they perform it on the court.

Damyean Dotson has shown what a shooter he still is after shoulder surgery this offseason. No one would know it if he were not playing. Players such as Dotson, Kevin Knox II, Allonzo Trier, and of course, RJ Barrett should also be on the floor.

Stick to your promises, show the fans you meant what you said, and will build this franchise from the ground up. I understand the seriousness of the situation you’re in. Rumors of Masai Ujuri coming to New York at this time are just that, rumors.

What are you pushing for at this late game? Are you starting the vets to show them off for trade value? I don’t think you’re going to get much for them. Their playing this season leaves a lot to be desired. This team is 12-34, third-worst in the League. Last season at this time the ragtag group of players assembled was 10-37.

It’s time to stop hiding and let your fans, especially those faithful season ticket holders, know exactly what’s going on.
