Round 3, 68th and 79th overall

The Jets acquired pick number 68 when they shipped defensive end Leonard Williams to NYG at the trade deadline. It was unlikely the team and their former 2015 first-rounder from USC would have agreed to a new deal when his contract expired at the conclusion of the season. At that point, Gang Green would have received a compensatory pick at the end of the third round. So this trade moved them up some 30 spots.

Figuring out how the draft plays out gets to be more and more of a crapshoot in the third round. Believe it or not, more than one site was in agreement for who the New York Jets would select 68th, cornerback Jeff Gladney from Texas Christian University.

The corner doesn’t possess ideal size at 6 feet even, 185 pounds. Even so, Gladney does a good job supporting the run. He’s not afraid to come up and make a hit. His pass defending skills are better than average. Although he is able to make up ground if necessary, some scouts aren’t enamored with the yardage he gives up.

Other players mentioned for New York’s consideration in this round include Lloyd Cushenberry III, C, LSU; Ross Blacklock, DT, TCU; Curtis Weaver, Edge, Boise State; Harrison Hand, CB, Temple, Josh Uche, Edge, Michigan; Alton Robinson, DE, Syracuse.
