By Ed Stein
What do our readers think about the local sports scene? EWB asked and you answered. Today we have our Buffalo Bills fan poll.
Welcome to the next installment of our 2019 fan polls. Over the next week, we will hear from Yankees, Nets, Knicks, Mets, Giants, Jets, Rangers, and today’s fan block Buffalo Bills fans. Bills fans are incredibly passionate about their team and it showed in the responses.
As with any family, there will be conflicting points of view on some issues. There are responses to some questions that are surprising while others were almost unanimous. Regardless, like all families, everyone unites behind their team.
Question 1: Sean McDermott should be NFL Coach of the Year (yes/no).
Maybe there was a little bias, but this one was unanimous. Now in his third season with the Bills, Sean McDermott has turned this team into a legitimate threat to go to this year’s Super Bowl. A big surprise considering they went 6-10 last year. If he isn’t the 2019 Coach of the Year, what does it take to win the award?
Question 2: Who has been the Bills best addition this year?
There have been several key additions to the team this year, mostly on offense. Ageless wonder Frank Gore and mighty-mite rookie Devin Singletary have significantly improved the running game. Cole Beasley has excelled as the slot receiver. Two players, however, have stood out and tied in our poll.
In his five previous NFL seasons, wide receiver John Brown has exceeded 60 receptions and 1,000 yards only once (2014, 64 for 1,003). In 15 games so far this season Brown has 72 receptions for 1,060 yards and half-a-dozen touchdown receptions. He has surpassed everyone’s expectations and become Josh Allen‘s favorite target.
There were plenty of questions about defensive lineman Ed Oliver. He has answered many of them with his outstanding play this year. Oliver’s five sacks and 39 tackles have made him a force on the Bills defensive line.
