The New York Mets are putting pieces together for the 2020 season and need starting pitcher Marcus Stroman to become a big reason for the team’s hopeful success.

The New York Mets surprised many experts in Major League Baseball when they acquired starting pitcher Marcus Stroman from the Toronto Blue Jays. The trade deadline deal was looked at as a long term investment in the young pitcher’s talent to reign supreme in Queens, New York, for many years.

Stroman is a native New Yorker, so he’s not blinded by the bright lights and immediate criticism that comes with the city’s reputation. The expectations for him going into the 2020 season are raised because of the expected departure of starter Zack Wheeler via free agency. The Mets need Stroman not only to replace Wheeler’s rotation spot but further exceed his effectiveness on the mound behind Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom.

The 28-year old was an All-Star for the first time in 2019 and sported an impressive 3.22 ERA splitting time in Toronto and New York. The Mets are notoriously known for poor run support for their pitchers, so it’s imperative that he keeps the ERA low and raises his strikeouts to new heights in 2020. Stroman’s fiery attitude can either make or break him in New York and will be interesting to see the Mets faithful’s reactions to his passionate attitude.

Stroman is already a fan of new manager Carlos Beltran recently going to twitter to praise him and defend his hire against internet trolls.

"“No time for any negative talk of my new manager, Thankful for him. Historical legend in the game of baseball. The depth of knowledge he (possesses) is insurmountable. It’s an honor for me to compete for this man. Hall of Famer. One of the best to ever do it. Crazy excited for 2020!”"

The passion of Stroman has made him a must-follow on social media as he consistently gives his thoughts on a variety of topics. The latest idea from him was the changing of uniforms back to the early 2000s style and an appearance courtside at Madison Square Garden for a New York Knicks game.

Mets fans can remain excited because Stroman appears proud to be a member of the Mets and will bring that passion to the mound every start.
