As the 2019 NFL season marches on, the New York Giants don’t appear to be playoff contenders and should make time to honor Eli Manning.

The New York Giants are running out the clock of the 2019 season currently riding a six-game losing streak. The team is being led by rookie quarterback Daniel Jones taking over this season after veteran Eli Manning was pulled from the starting position before Week 3.

Manning is 38 years old in his 16th NFL season and the final year of his contract with the Giants. The likelihood of him seeing the field again this season would only be in a farewell appearance on the season’s final home game. Jones is guaranteed the starting positions regardless of any poor play since the experience and growing pains are needed for his future.

The always positive Manning took the benching well and has been seen visibly supporting Jones all season. The former two time Super Bowl MVP spoke preseason to ESPN about his possible mentoring of Jones for the upcoming year.

"“You know, I don’t look at it as I’m a mentor. I treat it the same as every other quarterback we’ve had over the last 16 years. We’ve drafted other quarterbacks. It doesn’t matter if you’re the sixth pick or the, you know, 200th pick. If you’re in the quarterback room, we’re going to be talking football. I’m going to be in there after practice. I’m going to be watching the film. I don’t just watch my plays, I watch every play going on to learn from it to see what the defense is doing and we’re going to dissect it. … We’re going to talk about it and say what we could have done better. What protection call could we have made? You want to talk football and learn, and I’ve always thought if I can teach, if I can talk about a concept, if I can talk about a protection and teach it to somebody, then it means I really know it. And so I think it kind of helps me in the process as well.”"

Manning has continued to say all the right things in the media and has avoided being a distraction. Most players with Manning’s resume would’ve been campaigning for a trade before the deadline but, the team captain chose to stay in New York. The Giants winning two Super Bowls under Manning’s leadership against two of the best New England Patriots teams is an honor worth celebrating forever in team history.

The Giants need to treat the last home game of the season as Eli Manning day and fully honor the man that helped restore glory to the franchise.
