Rangers Ryan Strome has silenced the haters for now
Playing his way to a new team
It’s obvious New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton has some tough decisions to make. About who, and when they happen, will be dictated based upon how the team performs through the dog days of the season. If the Blueshirts can keep up their sparky-play as the season rolls into 2020 and so forth, I don’t think we’ll see the GM in a seller’s role again this year.

But Gorton has limited cap space to accommodate Strome, Chris Kreider, Tony DeAngelo, Brendan Lemieux, and Alexandar Georgiev, so something will have to give eventually. There is not much money available.
If Strome does keep this string of top-tier play going, he would call for the usual package Gorton has chased in the last two yard sales. At least a B-level prospect with an additional second or third-round draft pick. With the New York Rangers top-graded prospect system, I certainly am not that amused, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
What is especially exciting is the electric play of Filip Chytil, who also looks as though he has a grip on the second line center role. That gives Gorton some flexibility, but I would like to see a full-strength top-six once Zibanejad returns from his upper-body injury.
It may have been a little rocky out of the gates, but the New York Rangers have found a little swagger against some tough opponents, thanks to several breakout players headlined by Ryan Strome.
