Rutgers-centric Big Ten Football Power Rankings Week 10, 2019
By Ed Stein
6. Indiana (27th in voting, 7-2, 4-2)
Last Week: Indiana won at home over Northwestern 34-3. Quarterbacks Michael Penix Jr. and Peyton Ramsey combined for 270 yards on 17-of-25 passing. It was running back Stevie Scott III, however, with 26 carries for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns who stole the show. The Indiana defense held Northwestern to under 200 yards. Why aren’t the Hoosiers in the top 25?
This Week: Bye
5. Iowa Hawkeyes (18th, 6-2, 3-2)
Last Week: Bye
This Week: The Hawkeyes have a big showdown at 13th ranked Wisconsin. Staying alive for the West Division crown as well as bowl positioning is on the line.
4. Michigan Wolverines (14th, 7-2, 4-2)
Last Week: The Wolverines blew out Maryland 38-7. Zach Charbonnet ran for two touchdowns. Michigan’s defense shut the Terps offense down, holding the home team to 233 yards and no points. Maryland’s only score came on a third quarter kickoff return.

3. Minnesota Golden Gophers (17th, 8-0, 5-0)
Last Week: Bye
This Week: This is the Big Ten’s marquee game of the week. The 17th ranked Golden Gophers host fourth ranked Penn State. Someone will fall from the undefeated ranks. A win for Minnesota secures them at least a tie for first place in the West Division.
2. Penn State Nittany Lions (4th, 8-0, 5-0)
Last Week: Bye
This Week: The Nittany Lions begin a tough three-game stretch at Minnesota, Saturday. Ohio State looms in the distance on October 23. PSU can’t look ahead because 17th ranked Minnesota can beat them, especially at home.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes (1st, 8-0, 5-0)
Last Week: Bye
This Week: The Buckeyes host Maryland. This game should barely be a speed bump in a terrific Ohio State season. Same with Rutgers the following week. After that, business starts to pick up.
Check back with us next week, because there will be some changes in the rankings.
