Leonard Williams

Gang Green surprised the football world by trading the former Pro Bowl defensive lineman Leonard Williams to the Giants of all teams. I’ve personally taken a ton of flack for this stance in a recent article, but this was a huge blunder by Douglas.

To sum up, Williams will be a free agent at the end of the season. If he signed with anyone else, the New York Jets would have gotten a compensatory draft pick at the end of the third round. Instead, they received NYG’s third round pick and a conditional 5th rounder in 2021 (upgraded to a fourth if he re-signs with his new team). In addition to Williams, the Jets are paying half his salary for the remainder of the season, which is about $4M.

That is a big chunk of change to move up 25-ish spots in next year’s third round and an additional mid round pick the following year. Those financial resources could have been used more wisely. Additionally, I thought Douglas could have done better with a different trade partner.

Jamal Adams

When a team is 1-5 there are very few untouchables on the roster. Most New York Jets fans would have thought Jamal Adams was one of them, but Douglas is the one sitting in the GM’s chair. He was apparently taking calls on the Jets defensive leader. That apparently ticked off Adams, who sees his value to the team comparable to the value of Aaron Donald or Tom Brady to their respective teams.

Again there was a batter way. Apparently, Adams was told a few days earlier he wasn’t on the block, then he read that the Jets were shopping him. Somewhere along the line, communications between the players and front office must improve. Otherwise, the Jets will continue to occupy the back page of the tabloids and not for anything good.

Next. Yankees should hire former pitcher David Cone. dark
