Brooklyn Nets fans have found themselves a star, Kyrie Irving, who shares the same passion for the franchise as they do.

Ever since Kyrie Irving signed with the Brooklyn Nets in early July, the overwhelming message that has come from his press conferences have been about his joy of coming back home. The last star to play for the Nets that was born and raised in the Brooklyn/New Jersey area was all-star Stephon Marbury who played for the franchise from 1999-2001.

Irving, 27, was born in Melbourne, Australia, however, he moved to West Orange, New Jersey when he was two years old. His love for his hometown and desire to play for his childhood team, which he discussed in a YES Network interview, was clearly the main factor in his decision to sign with the Nets and leave Boston after such a tumultuous season.

Irving’s passion for the Nets has been clear to see every time he has spoken since his free agency decision. The main example of this occurred earlier this week during his pregame speech before Brooklyn’s home opener.

Kyrie’s leadership abilities were severely questioned over the offseason, however, you can’t fault his effort to lead his new team thus far. His play on the court through the first three games have been the performances of a player that wants to be the man and the leader of the Brooklyn Nets. When Kevin Durant makes it back, he’ll find that the groundwork has been laid for a winner, by his buddy Kyrie Irving.

With a current stat line of 37.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game Irving is among the NBA’s elite. His shooting has been lights out as well, hitting on 45.6 percent of his shots from the floor and 41.2 percent from three-point range.

Brooklyn Nets fans should be ecstatic that one of their own has returned to play in his hometown. The passion and emotion Irving has shown throughout his short time here in Brooklyn is making fans fall in love with their new star.
