6. Bring back Didi

Even in a down season, the numbers say Didi Gregorius would have hit 32 home runs and driven in 120 with stellar defense if he played the full season for the Bronx Bombers. Didi is a leader and someone who has a huge impact on the team. The Francisco Lindor talk is a pipe dream. The Cleveland shortstop would cost twice as much for maybe 30 percent more productivity.

7. Betances has to earn it

If Dellin Betances will take a short term “prove it” deal bring him back. The living statue has been edging towards shaky the last few years. Additionally, he is returning from two serious injuries in one year. In other words, he’s heading in the wrong direction. The New York Yankees already have a stacked pen without him. He’ll have to earn a payday in the Bronx, otherwise, he is expendable.

8. Re-evaluate their training staff.

The sheer number of movement-based muscle injuries should be a huge concern. The Bombers had to have led the Majors in oblique problems in 2019. Clearly, flexibility has to be a focus for the training staff moving forward.

9. Lay the groundwork for Judge and Torres

It’s time to start thinking about extensions for Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres. A wise move would be to buy out some arbitration years and lock the pair up for a few more seasons. Judge is older and would approach free agency around 30, so he will probably be more amenable to some type of deal but try for both.

10. Stay the course with Sanchez.

Once again Gary Sanchez had his worst trait show up on the biggest stage. His defense is what it is, and he is never going to be a Molina when it comes to blocking pitches in the dirt. That said if he can stay healthy (see point 8), Sanchez is a game-changer at the plate. His .846 career OPS is in the top 10 all-time among catchers (slightly behind Jorge Posada‘s .848). Sanchez is also in the upper echelon with his arm, game calling, and pitch framing.
