Eli Manning

Eli Manning has been the face of the New York Giants for over a decade, he delivered two Super Bowl titles to New York. Manning will also go down as the most loved/hated quarterback that I can remember. He is currently sitting on the bench as the new era is ushered in.

A trade should and will only happen if Eli Manning wants and agrees to it. Otherwise, this is not even an option for Giants GM Dave Gettleman. No Matter if you love him or hate him, at this point he is Giants royalty. Manning should be treated with the respect and choice afforded to his brother Peyton at the end by Indianapolis.

Manning was the starter to open the 2019 season. After two rough team outings, the organization began to see that the future was now and Daniel Jones was the guy to go with. Manning being the competitor he is didn’t want to sit. However, being the leader he’s always been Eli handled his demotion with grace.

He’s a valuable mentor to Jones but at the same time, the Giants kept another veteran on the roster, Alex Tanney, to also help tutor the rookie. Now if Manning wants to compete and play on a team that could use his experience down the stretch, his best landing spot is the Chicago Bears. The Bears have a defense strong enough to get Eli the ball with good field position and cover for him when he makes mistakes.

With the playmakers already in place for Chicago, he would add a strong leadership presence that has been lacking. He could be the veteran needed to help push them through the playoffs. An ideal situation at the midway point for both teams.

The Bears would have to pay the cost for getting a two-time super-bowl MVP regardless of his diminishing skills. His pedigree alone is worth a second-round pick. Chicago gets an instant playoff experienced quarterback who would be able to play smart and get the ball to their playmakers.

This is not the all-world trade NYG would get for a younger Manning, in his prime, but this is a strong enough move for both teams. Manning’s addition would signify that the Bears are all in this year. they could let Mitchell Trisbusky heal and learn for a year.

Final thought

The Giants clear up some cap space going forward by trading a handful of veterans. They can say this is a building year by committing to the young players they have on the roster. Additionally Big Blue could also add a few more valuable draft picks to add to their offseason spending frenzy.
