Rhett Ellison

Rhett Ellison caught a touchdown pass two weeks ago against Arizona. He has shown the ability to continue to block all the way to the whistle in the New York Giants run game. However, the G-Men have not earned his love or respect due to his lack of usage.

It’s also very hard justifying paying a backup tight end more than your starter who’s on a rookie contract. Even more so when Big Blue has Kaden Smith who is cut from almost the exact same mold as the veteran.

Ellison is a great team player. He brings outstanding toughness and veteran leadership to the tight end room. When it’s all said and done, right now there are more pressing needs for New York. There are other players out there that can provide the same if not better blocking ability than Ellison.

Kaden Smith could step in immediately and fill that role as the blocking tight end. The Giants also have Elijah Penny who is a natural fullback that can block from either a backfield or wing position. Either way Ellison has lived up to his billing but unfortunately, on a team that’s not ready to compete against the top teams regularly, his talents are wasted here.

The Kansas City Chiefs could use Ellison the most. Travis Kelce is an amazing tight end but KC could use another big body to spell him. He would also greatly help the Chiefs anemic rushing attack.

Ellison could be had for the low, low price of a fifth-round pick and a swap of seventh rounders. This would give the Giants and added pick, even though they may be moving back in the seventh round. The move also sheds a little more money from the 2020 payroll.
