New York Giants vs Lions Week 8 – Time, TV, Weather, More
By Ed Stein
It’s Week 8 for the New York Giants as the Big Blue Wrecking Crew heads to Detroit. Empire Writes Back has all you need to know.
Empire Writes Back presents, what you need to know in order to enjoy New York Giants football Sunday afternoon. The G-Men are back on the road this week to take on their NFC rivals from Detroit. Whether you are going to see the game live, or staying at home and watching on television, we have you covered.
Who: New York Giants (2-5) at Detroit Lions (2-3-1).
Where: Ford Field – Detroit, MI.
When: Sunday, October 27, 2019, 1:00 p.m. EDT.
Weather: It’s a dome.
TV: Fox – Announcers Kenny Albert, Charles Davis & Pam Oliver.**
Line: Giants +6.5. Over/Under 49.5 (Odds Shark).
Interesting Trends: After winning his first two starts, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has lost three straight. As a matter of fact, that two-game win streak is the only bright part of Big Blue’s last 10 games (2-8). Although they have been the darlings of the under recently, New York gone over in five straight road games and Detroit’s defense isn’t very good. Detroit is similar to Big Blue in terms of over/under. They have been under in nine of 13, but over in four of the last six.
Injury Report: Giants: Out – WR Sterling Shepard (concussion), CB Sam Beal (hamstring), CB Corey Balentine (concussion). Probable – LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle). Detroit: Out – DT Mike Daniels, CB Darius Slay, CB Amani Oruwariye. Questionable – RB Nick Bawden (foot). Probable – LB Jarrad Davis (n/a), DE Da’Shawn Hand (elbow).
Last Week
New York Giants
The New York Giants once again put up a decent fight but fell short. Last week they were at the wrong end of a 27-21 loss at home to the Arizona Cardinals. It was their carelessness with the ball (one interception, and two lost fumbles) as well as their failure to protect Jones (8 sacks) that did them in. On the bright side, Saquon Barkley averaged 4.0 yards per carry (18 for 72 yards) in his return from injury.
Leaders
- QB Daniel Jones – 22/35, 223 yards, 1 touchdown, 1 interception, 4 rushes, 35 yards.
- WR Golden Tate – 6 receptions, 80 yards.
- S Jabrill Peppers – 8 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss.
Detroit Lions
It was a rough game for the Detroit defense last Sunday. They gave up 42 points and 504 yards to the visiting Minnesota Vikings. The Lions racked up 433 yards and 30 points of their own, but it wasn’t enough.
Leaders
- QB Matthew Stafford – 30/45, 365 yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception.
- WR Marvin Jones Jr. – 10 receptions, 93 yards, 4 touchdowns.
- S Tracy Walker – 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss.
This Week
Another battle for the Giants against a struggling team. Detroit’s defense is horrible allowing an NFL second-worst 428.8 yards per game. They are also tied with the Giants for 26th place in the league, allowing 26.7 points per game. Although the Lions offense has been more prolific this year, Big Blue has a big advantage. With the exception of Sterling Sheppard, they are very healthy. Detroit, on the other hand, is banged up. Jones could have a breakout day.
