Eduardo Perez

In the category of lightning striking twice, current ESPN analyst and Major League legacy Eduardo Perez is in the mix. The New York Yankees plucked their current manager, Aaron Boone from the ESPN broadcast booth and he has been quite successful. So the precedent has been set.

Perez may not have any major league managing experience, but he has plenty of baseball knowledge. Growing up the son of Hall of Famer Tony Perez, young Eduardo was constantly around the sport and legends including Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench, and Sparky Anderson. Since his playing career ended in 2006, he has worked around baseball in various capacities.

He was a coach for both the Florida Marlins and Houston Astros as well as earning a role in Cleveland’s front office. Additionally, he has served as a manager in the Puerto Rico Winter League for three seasons, with two championships. Van Wagenen seems interested in Perez, having conducted two interviews with him already. Perez has said he was “honored” that the Amazins are considering him so heavily for the job.

Boone has endorsed Perez to become a Major League manager. The crosstown skipper recently said on SNY, “I’m a huge fan. He’s a guy that really knows the game. Really good at dealing with people. He’s bilingual. I really think he’s a great candidate.”
