The New York Mets are one of the most electrifying teams in baseball. Being a manager for this group of young talented players should be a dream job for anyone.

While the New York Mets may not be in the playoffs this season, it looks like good things are on the horizon. There is extraordinary talent on this team and it is possible to believe that missing the playoffs this season had more to do with Mickey Callaway mismanaging games, especially when it came to the bullpen than a lack of ability.

Callaway was fired by the team shortly after the regular season ended. The Amazins vacancy is one that has caught many people’s attention as an attractive landing spot due to their young and talented roster.

Several interesting names have been attached to the job opening such as Minnesota Twins bench coach Derek Shelton and Arizona Diamondbacks VP of Player Development, Mike Bell. New York has already started conducting interviews with various candidates, several of whom do not have major league managing experience.

There, however, seems to be three top front-runners for the Mets. They include Joe Girardi, Eduardo Perez, and former Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran. Only one of the three, Joe Girardi, has managerial experience at this level. The other two are somewhat out of the box options.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were the first team to fill their manager void by hiring former Chicago Cubs skipper Joe Maddon. He was never a true contender for the New York Mets job opening, but with the first position filled others should fill up quickly. His three-year deal with LAA is reportedly worth between $12M and $15M.  It sets the market going forward this offseason.
