Brooklyn Nets extend Taurean Prince for two more years
On the eve of a new NBA season, the Brooklyn Nets commit to newcomer Taurean Prince to grow with the franchise.
The Brooklyn Nets fanbase hasn’t been shy about their excitement for the team’s new acquisitions. The big names were DeAndre Jordan, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant, dominating every NBA news headline.
The under the radar deal to bring in crafty swingman Taurean Prince from the Atlanta Hawks is beginning to look like an absolute steal. Prince averaged 13.5 points and 3.6 rebounds last year in Atlanta as part of a young core that at times over achieved late in the season. Prince was brought in to help sure up the bench and play multiple positions for a team expected to compete in the Eastern Conference.
The Nets weren’t expecting the fiery blast of scoring from Prince, who has shown to be an offensive threat needed in the starting lineup. Prince led the team in scoring during the preseason with 16.8 points per game, including 16 of 23 from three-point range. The impressive play will most likely earn the starting power forward role to begin the season and has now garnered a contract extension.
Prince was offered and signed a two-year extension to remain with the Nets. The news is perfect for Prince, who recently spoke about enjoying his time in Brooklyn and desiring to stay long term.
"“I want to be here as long as I can. And whatever happens, happens, but I’m just happy to play good basketball,” said Prince during an interview with The NY Post. “One hundred percent, yeah. For sure. This is the best organization I’ve been in.”"
Prince will likely be used as a new threat to help stretch the floor with his size and versatility. The combination of penetrating guards like Irving and Prince’s outside shooting touch should be used often throughout the season. The Nets are now built depth-wise to create matchup problems offensively and still defend small lineups on most nights.
The Nets securing Prince for an extended time along with new deals for Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert are positioned to be a threat in the league without entirely relying on free agency. The change in culture developed by general manager Sean Marks is fully embraced throughout the franchise.
