New York Giants Week 6 fantasy start/sit: Scarlet Knight to Dark Knight?
Giant Mistakes
Players to sit
Daniel Jones – QB NYG
Bill Belichick has a great record against rookie quarterbacks. He is 11-0 at home against young signal-callers. That type of consistency is not good for Daniel Jones’ fantasy prospects this week. We know how good the Patriots are, but can Jones and the New York Giants be better than they were a few days ago?
I think the Giants rookie will have a similar stat line to the one Josh Allen had when the Bills played New England. Allen threw for 153 yards and had three interceptions. The Patriots defense is much better and even more complicated than what the Vikings threw at Jones last week.
Sunday, Jones went for 182 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. If he accounts for more than one touchdown Thursday night, that will be shocking. Given the lack of offensive talent around him this week (Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard, Saquon Barkley, and Wayne Gallman are all OUT), Jones should be firmly on your bench.
Give him a nice IOU for next week’s game against the Cardinals.
Darius Slayton – WR NYG
The rookie wide receiver has had more downs than ups this season. Slayton looked great against the Bucs in his debut but was a non-factor against the Redskins. On the bright side, Sunday he scored on a beautiful 35-yard touchdown against one of the better corners in the league, Xavier Rhodes.
Without Sterling Shepard available this week, Slayton is going to be the New York Giants number two receiver and should get plenty of looks this week. But without a running game, the Patriots will be playing the pass all game, which does not bode well for the former Auburn Tiger.
He will eventually be facing Stephon Gilmore who has not allowed a deep ball touchdown all year. That is what Slayton is good at, stretching the field. He is worthy of a waiver wire pickup this week to play him against the Cardinals next week, especially if Shepard is not cleared again.
Aldrick Rosas – K, NYG
The first time this year the 2018 Pro Bowl kicker has made it to any list. Unfortunately, it is on the negative side. Rosas has been reliable when needed this season, connecting on four of five attempted field goals. He has not been used in 2019 as often as he was last year.
Since Jones became the New York Giants starter, Rosas has only attempted three field goals and the rest have been extra points. Kickers are not usual fantasy stars. With this being a Thursday game, you might be tempted to just plug some Giants player in the line up to have a reason to watch the game…..don’t do that.
The offense will not get many trips past midfield and if they do, the weather will always be a factor in the kicking game. They are playing outdoors and the conditions are supposed to be rainy. Not great for Rosas.
There are better reasons to watch this game than to watch your fantasy kicker fail. Like going out for some wings, enjoying a nice dinner with your buddies while having the game as background noise.
