New York Giants Zeroes and Heroes of Week 5 vs Minnesota
By Ed Stein
Heroes of the Week
It’s hard to find Heroes in an all-around poor game, but we found a few.
Honorable Mention – Jabrill Peppers. His hustle in forcing Cook to fumble on the one-yard line and saving a touchdown is exactly how the game should be played. Peppers also had a tackle in the backfield as part of his five stops on the day.
Third place Hero – Corey Ballentine

Watching Ballentine run back kicks is a thing of beauty. The lightning-fast defensive back has the ability to break a return at any time. This year’s sixth-round draft pick has gone through so much personal strife since his selection, it’s nice to see him have a good game. On Sunday Ballentine returned two kicks for 76 yards, including a 52-yard run back after a Minnesota’s first touchdown.
Second Place Hero – Darius Slayton
Another rookie stepped up this week, wide receiver Darius Slayton was picked one round ahead of Ballentine. Although some questioned his hands prior to the draft, Slayton is proving to be a reliable target for quarterback Daniel Jones. The former Auburn star pulled in four passes for 62 yards. Slayton scored the New York Giants only touchdown of the game when he got behind Minnesota’s secondary to catch a 32-yard pass in the end zone.
Hero of the Week – Antoine Bethea
The Giants defense played poorly on Sunday, but that can’t be pinned on safety Antoine Bethea. He was all over the field making tackles, 11 to be exact. He and Peppers did a nice job limiting Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph to only one catch for four yards. Additionally, so many handoffs got past Big Blue’s front seven he was forced to make more tackles against the run.
