The New York Yankees took game one of the 2019 ALDS against the Twins on Friday night, giving the Bronx Bombers a 1-0 series lead in the best-of-five ALDS.

In what could now be considered an unconventional win in the Bronx, the New York Yankees won a game in which they hit less than three home runs. The Yankees hit *only* two home runs on Friday night ultimately leading to a 10-4 blowout victory over the Twins.

The Yankees trailed and were tied with the Twins at multiple times throughout the game, their biggest deficit being a 2-0 Twins lead going into the bottom of the third. The deficit, however, did not last long as the Yankees scored three runs in the third giving them the 3-2 lead.

DJ LeMahieu was huge once again for the Yankees as he was 3-5 with a home run, four RBI and scored two runs for the Yankees. The AL MVP candidate was a large reason the Yankees were so successful during the regular season despite all the injuries and he appeared not to have missed a beat heading into the postseason.

Gleyber Torres, Brett Gardner, and Edwin Encarnacion also contributed in their own ways with Torres driving in two runs and crossing the plate once himself and then Gardner and Encarnacion each drove in a run with Gardner crossing the plate twice and Encarnacion once.

More from New York Yankees

This game was rather unconventional for the Yankees because they got their runs in ways that are conventional for most other teams, by putting the ball in a tough spot and getting extra-base hits rather than home runs.

It was because of this that Twins pitcher, Jose Berrios made it through only four innings after letting up one earned run, four hits and three walks to the Yankees with 88 total pitches in only four innings.

Something that might benefit the Yankees, in the long run, is that the Twins used Kyle Gibson for 34 pitches in the seventh inning. Gibson was likely going to be the opener for a bullpen game in Monday’s Game 3 matchup, but that may be questionable now.

The New York Yankees were very impressive on Friday night winning with a final score of 10-4 over the 101 regular-season game winners from Minnesota. If the Yankees bats keep doing what they’re doing and their starting rotation finds their footing, the Yankees will be nearly impossible to beat.
