The American League Division Series starts on Friday. The New York Yankees will square off with the AL Central champion Minnesota Twins.

The New York Yankees finished the 2019 Major League season with the second-best record in the American League and the third-best record in MLB, as well. As champions of the American League East Division, the Bronx Bombers will meet the American League Central Champs, Minnesota Twins in Round 1 of the playoffs.

This season the New York Yankees hold a 4-2 record against the Twins and outscored them 43-38 in six meetings between the clubs. However, the Yankees hold a record of 5-5 in their last ten games while the Twins are 8-2 in their last ten. Minnesota will be entering the postseason with a bit more momentum than the Yanks, plus New York will be without arguably their best pitcher from this season, Domingo German.

German has been placed on ‘administrative leave’ after news broke of a reported domestic abuse scandal. His administrative leave has been extended through the end of the World Series which means his 2019 season is over.

The good news, however, is that the Yankees now have Luis Severino back from injury and he has been lights out in his three appearances since rejoining the club. Severino’s return plus the fact James Paxton has been much better as of late will be big for the Yankees in this series.

How do the New York Yankees stack up against Minnesota?
