New York Jets Week 5 fantasy start/sit: Can the Jets offense finally take off?
Stars Flying High
Players to start this week
Jamison Crowder – WR, NYJ
Jamison Crowder is the best wide receiver Gang Green has this year. His route running has been as advertised and he can play inside and out of the slot when necessary. Crowder can be the perfect security blanket for Falk like he was week one for Darnold.
With the bye week, the Jets brain trust should have found a way to get him involved more with the offense. Crowder’s yards gained for each game are 99, 40 and 25. Why put a player in a lineup whose fantasy value is trending down?
His season started with Darnold at quarterback. Hence why he got almost 100 yards the first game off 14 receptions. Then every week that followed came a new QB. Naturally, his numbers would be down because each week needed a new game plan. The Eagles corners are wounded and also weak defending the slot, so look for Crowder to have a big game.
Le’Veon Bell – RB, NYJ
The pressure has been on Bell to succeed in New York since he signed the big offseason contract. His stats, however, have been down since the first week of the season. Luckily, he is not sharing time with everyone else.
Bell has been the only running back the Jets have used on offense. Bilal Powell hasn’t even sniffed a snap at RB yet. That type of inconsistency can hurt Bell’s production because he has no time to rest. By getting all the carries, he is averaging 11.5 points per game. Bell should take more plays off this week to keep him fresh and be used more as a receiver.
The Eagles front seven has been tough on their opponent’s run game so far. Swinging out passes to Bell from the backfield or putting him in motion would provide more favorable matchups. Going for 32 rushing yards and 65 receiving yards should not be impossible for Bell, who will shoulder the load for Luke Falk.
Jordan Howard – RB, PHI
Jordan Howard had a breakout game last week in Green Bay. Eagles fans were shown what he can bring to their offense by moving him all over the field. His 87 rushing yards and two touchdowns combined with 28 yards receiving and a touchdown gave Jordan almost 30 points.
Miles Sanders looks to be the future lead back for Philadelphia, but they can’t limit Howard’s production by going 60-40 with Sanders. Howard proved to be the better back last week against Green Bay.
The Eagles offensive line is much better than the New York Jets defensive front. They should be able to create big enough holes so Howard can breakthrough. He made a living in Chicago playing hard nose football and this week should be no different. I am projecting him to have 95 total yards and one touchdown.
