Players to avoid this week

Daniel Jones – QB, NYG

Even though Daniel Jones has proven to be a winning quarterback in the league, winning games does not always translate to great fantasy performances. Against a poor Washington Redskins defense Jones managed to throw for 225 yards, but only had one passing touchdown with two interceptions.

The new Minnesota “Purple People Eaters” have much more talent on defense than his previous opponents and will be Jones’ biggest test to date. The Vikings defense allowed top fantasy quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan to only score 14 and 18 points, respectively. These are two QB’s who have much more experience playing Mike Zimmer’s team than Jones does.

Jones will need this experience to grow as a QB in the NFL and will learn from playing against good competition. Minnesota is also in desperation mode to get a win, which makes them more dangerous. The Vikings will be serving “Penne a la Dimes” Sunday at MetLife Stadium making Jones a must sit this week. Scoring between ten to 15 fantasy points would be the absolute ceiling for him.

Wayne Gallman Jr. – RB, NYG

I had Wayne Gallman Jr on my sit list last week and I was totally wrong. He does not get enough credit as being a dual-threat RB and looked great running against the Redskins defense. I thought Washington’s talented defense would have put up more of a fight, but kudos to Gallman for taking advantage.

He put up great RB1 numbers by scoring two touchdowns (one rushing and receiving) and totaling 118 yards and 21 fantasy points. Great numbers for an unproven back

Having said that. I do think THIS week is the right time to keep him on your bench. With rumors of Saquon Barkley being available for Sunday, Gallman is at risk to be used in a limited role. Even if Barkley does not play, the matchup is just not in his favor. The previous backs to run against the Vikings D only tallied 53 and 44 yards (David Montgomery and Josh Jacobs).

Evan Engram – TE, NYG

Evan Engram is flirting with being a number one fantasy TE every week. He has shown to be a reliable target for his rookie QB and has had a better statistical season than George Kittle of San Francisco.

Engram is starting to develop a fantasy “puppy love” relationship with owners though. One week you love him to death, and the next week you cannot stand to look at him on your roster. His puppy pattern would show he should be scoring big this weekend. However…

tight ends have not been an area of concern for the Vikings to defend. They have allowed under 10 points to every TE they have faced with one outlier. Darren Waller of Oakland went on to have a 14-point game. He is a similar player to Engram, but Waller is the best offensive player the Raiders have. Engram is not option one for New York. Act like Ross Geller come Sunday and take a break from this relationship (Friends anniversary reference).
