New York Mets: Six games from 2019 they wish they had back

Considering the Mets lost out to Milwaukee for the final National League Wild Card spot, this one stings a bit more in hindsight. Down 2-1, in the top of the ninth inning, NYM tied the game on Alonso’s leadoff home run. Both teams had opportunities to win, but couldn’t score over the next nine innings. New York’s embattled relievers held the Brewers to just four hits between the 9th – 17th innings.
In the top of the 18th, Adeiny Hechavaria hit a two-out single, then stole second. Jeff McNeil followed up with a hit of his own which scored Hecharria, but McNeil was thrown out at second trying to advance on the throw home.
Down to their last reliever, Mets pitcher Chris Flexen went out for the bottom of the 18th. He walked the bases loaded, retiring only one batter, before Ryan Braun smacked a two-run walk-off single which gave the Brew Crew a 4-3 win. To add insult to injury, the Amazins lost the next day at Miller Park 3-2.

This one took place the day before our number six loss on this list. Needless to say, the New York Mets did not enjoy their trip to the Bay Area. The Amazins wasted another gem from a starting pitcher. Noah Syndergaard allowed one run on six hits through seven innings, with one walk and eight strikeouts. Six different Mets relievers followed Thor’s performance with seven shutout innings of their own. Chris Mazza then pitched a one-two-three 15th to leave the score tied at one apiece.
Polar Bear Pete did it again, in the top of the 16th inning. He hit a majestic 427 foot home run to give Mets a 2-1 lead. Without getting into too much of the gory details, Mazza imploded in the bottom half of the inning. Two doubles to start the stanza tied the game. Then with the bases loaded and no one out Donovan Solano hit a game-winning single.
