Heroes of the Week

Honorable Mention – Markus Golden. Although Golden was credited with only half-a-sack against Washington, the linebacker was buzzing around the Skins quarterbacks all day. He also had three QB hits.

3rd place Hero – Riley Dixon

Usually, when the Giants punter is one of the Heroes of the week, it means Big Blue had a bad week. The Redskins game is the exception to the rule. Dixon was fantastic on Sunday. Despite having only three opportunities, the 26-year-old proved his worth. He flipped the field on each of his three kicks. All three of Dixon’s punts were over 50 yards (55.0 average), all were inside the Skins 20-yard line and only was returned by Washington for six yards.

2nd place Hero – Wayne Gallman

Replacing a bonafide superstar like Saquon Barkley isn’t easy. While Gallman didn’t exactly match Barkley’s output he still had a heck of a game, despite a second-half fumble. The former Clemson University star had 25 touches for 118 and a pair of touchdowns. He was equally impressive in the passing game (6 receptions, 55 yards, 1 TD) as was rushing the ball (18 carries, 63 yards, 1 TD).

More from Empire Writes Back

He proved he can be a featured back on Sunday. Gallman has two good defenses ahead of him in the next two weeks, Minnesota, then New England, so he needs to keep up the good work. His ability to establish a viable rushing attack that opponents have to honor will keep the pressure off Jones.

Big Hero of the Week – Janoris Jenkins

The Jackrabbit had a wakeup call last time out against Tampa. Prior to that game, Jenkins blasted his team’s defensive line for giving opposing quarterbacks too much time in the pocket and that he couldn’t be expected to cover receivers for 10 seconds. Well, the Giants front seven got pressure on Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston, but Mike Evans burned Jenkins for eight catches, 190 yards, and three touchdowns.

Needless to say, Jenkins had to redeem himself after such a dismal performance. Against Washington, Jackrabbit was stuck to his man like used car salesman to a guy who pulled into the lot with a blown engine. Washington threw for only 121 yards all game, but there is more to it. Jenkins deflected the ball to Ryan Connelly on the game’s first pick. He then added two more interceptions of his own.
