New York Mets 2019 roller coaster ride ends, bring on 2020!

To the end
The positive is this. The Mets did not quit. They were a team to be reckoned with. Jacob deGrom returned to form and may win his second consecutive CYA. J.D. Davis was a pleasant surprise and my favorite player. He brought a new dimension to the clubhouse. With Davis, the Mets had five players with at least 20 home runs for the first time in team history. Rosario was fifth in the NL in base hits and his defense improved.
However, Pete Alonso made the Mets his team. It was if he picked up the torch from Wright and ran with it. From donating the money he won in the Home Run Derby, to his support for first responders and the families of 9/11 victims, he captured the hearts of the fans.
To top it off, Polar Bear Pete became the all-time rookie season home run king when he belted his 53rd home run against the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. He became the first Mets player to lead the National League, as well as Major League Baseball in home runs. Alonso is certain to win the Rookie of the Year Award and be mentioned in the National League MVP race.

Eventually, the Mets fell short and did not make the postseason. But considering the adversity, the injuries, and the questionable moves, they were able to compile an 86-76 record. I don’t know about you, but I think this an amazing turnaround and all I can say is this is something huge to build on.
Now it is on BVW to roll up his sleeves and start tweaking. Do what needs to be done to improve on this young core of players the Mets have. I can assure you that the rest of the league is taking notice. The teams that did make the postseason are happy they don’t have to face the Mets.
The topping on this season came in Sunday’s season finale’ and hopefully will carry over to 2020. Dom Smith came off the bench, after being sidelined for 2 months, and belted an 11th inning, 3-run homer to wipeout a two-run deficit and sweep the Braves (who they were 5-11 against to begin the series) to end the 2019 campaign.
The roller coaster ride has come to a screeching halt but what a ride it was. The future looks very bright and like the fans, the New York Mets are chomping at the bit to get back to Port St. Lucie in February. Bring on 2020!
