The Fault in Our Stars

Players to avoid this week.

Wayne Gallman Jr. – RB, NYG

It is a huge blow for the G-Men to lose Saquon Barkley after gaining so much momentum with their win against Tampa Bay. Third-year pro Wayne Gallman Jr. is the logical choice to carry the load until Barkley comes back, but that doesn’t mean he’s a logical fantasy choice. He did score 10 points in Week 1 most of which came in mop-up duty long after the game got away from Big Blue.

The Redskins allowed Chicago’s David Montgomery to score 8.1 points in Week 3. However, the Redskins defensive line is one of the most talented defensive fronts in football. It’s practically Alabama Crimson Tide 2.0. My advice is to sit Gallman for this week with a ceiling of a flex player. That is only if your options are between him and the kid who gets picked last for kickball (any Miami Dolphins offensive player).

Darius Slayton – WR, NYG

New York Giants rookie fifth-round pick out of Auburn, Darius Slayton was a favorite of Jones in Week 3. He caught three of five targets for 82 yards scoring 8.2 points. This was Slayton’s first game of the season due to a hamstring injury. He looked great on Sunday, but I would not trust him with any fantasy value just yet.

This week’s matchup against the Redskins secondary looks favorable, but only for an experienced receiver such as Sterling Shepard. My suggestion is, claim Slayton and stash him away like an early Christmas present you bought in September because it was on sale (cough** not speaking from experience, cough**).

Vernon Davis – TE, WSH

Jordan Reed has been dealing with concussion issues that have robbed him of his fantasy royalty status. In his place, Vernon Davis was supposed to be the fantasy boost the Redskins offense needed. Unfortunately through three weeks of the season, he has been nothing short of poor.

In Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, he scored 11.9 points, but after that has only scored a combined six points. The Giants gave up six points to Tampa tight end O.J Howard last week and he is a better player than Davis. Until the 14-year vet proves he can be a consistent target for Washington, players such as Jordan Akins and even Jimmy Graham would be safer bets given their respective offenses.
