It’s a bounce-back year for the New York Knicks.  A key to success anywhere is goal setting. Here are five challenging yet attainable goals the team can reach in 2019-20.

Last season, the New York Knicks were a laughing stock of the NBA. A 17-65 record was all they could show for during their quest to “tank for Zion Williamson.” Not only that, this was the summer for marquee free agents. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were two of the most tantalizing players to grace the market in years.

Due to an excessive push from the media, it seemed the probability for New York to end up with Williamson, Durant, and Irving was incredibly high. In classic Knicks fashion, however, that wouldn’t be the case. The front office had to scramble.

Somehow, the number one pick in the lottery went to the New Orleans Pelicans who didn’t pass up on drafting possibly the greatest draft prospect since LeBron James. If things couldn’t get any worse for the Knickerbockers, Durant later said that he never really had much interest in signing with the Knicks, to begin with.

It was safe to assume that Kyrie was following him wherever he went, so since Durant wasn’t interested, neither was Irving. Fans thought that the Los Angeles teams (Lakers or Clipper)s could be possible destinations for the duo. Everyone was wrong. Instead, they ended up on the other side of town playing for the Brooklyn Nets.

Chalk it up to false narratives created by the media or the undying hope of the Knicks’ fanbase but nothing really went how the organization wanted it to. It wasn’t all bad for New York, however. They were able to draft arguably the most complete player in the draft in RJ Barrett and add solid veteran pieces like Taj Gibson, Wayne Ellington, and Marcus Morris.

All of those pickups are ones who can compliment a possible future franchise star, Julius Randle. Despite missing out on the “big guys,” the Knicks still had an incredibly active free agency and are looking to shock the league this coming season. The haters are out in force, but here are five attainable goals this New York Knicks team can accomplish during the 2019-20 season.
