Ed Stein, Co-site expert, Empire Writes Back

It’s a new day for the New York Jets. I believe Sam Darnold will have a breakout season, behind a fortified offensive line. Additionally, Bell’s production running the ball will open up the field for the second-year QB.

While I think the offense will be considerably better than it has been in recent years, it won’t be enough to improve into playoff contenders. That’s because there are huge holes on the defense. Their pass rush as well as pass coverage won’t be very good. Gang Green will give up lots of points in 2019. I came to my final prediction a little differently. Instead of going week-by-week, I did vs each division.

New York Jets vs AFC East

There is no question that New England controls the AFC East division. It’s hard to believe Gang Green is ready to handle all NE has in their arsenal. Conversely, the Jets are significantly better than Miami and should win both. Buffalo, is in a similar situation as Gang Green is in. The two teams will compete with each other for second place. Let’s games between them a split.

New York Jets vs NFC East

Philly and Dallas will be fighting for the NFC East title all season long. Neither of them will let the New York Jets get in the way. While NYG and Washington won’t be very good, I don’t see Gang Green winning both in back-to-back weeks, but they will win one of them. The Jets go 1-3 vs the NFC east.

New York Jets vs. AFC North

This is where the Jets season could be made or broken. None of the teams are outstanding, then again three of them aren’t bad either and will finish between 8-8, and 10-6. Gang Green will beat Cincinnati in the Queen City on December 1. They will also fall just short against Cleveland in the second game of the season. The Jets play at Baltimore and then host Pittsburgh during back-to-back games in Weeks 15 and 16. One of the two will be out of the playoff hunt by then, that’s the game they win. NYJ breaks even against the AFC North.

New York Jets vs Other

An NFL schedule is done in four parts. Aside from the divisional play, a team plays the other conference teams who finished the previous season in the same spot (fourth place) as they did. Since they already play Cincy as part of the AFC North, it leaves Jacksonville and Oakland. The Jets will win both games.

Final Record: 8-8
