New York Islanders Top-10 players under 24
By Ed Stein
Anthony Beauvillier (22), Left Wing, 2015 1st round, 28th overall
New York Islanders fans patiently wait for Anthony Beauvillier bloom into an offensive threat. They know the team needs another source of scoring. So far he’s been a disappointment at the NHL level. Beuvillier has been with the Isles for almost three full seasons and has 88 points in 218 games.
In 2018-19, he dropped to 28 points after recording 36 the season before. Part of the decline could be due to head coach Barry Trotz’ focus on the defensive zone. Even so the Sorel-Tracy, Quebec native averaged a career-high 14:39, due to his versatility. He should, however, be able to produce more points, especially when playing meaningful minutes. Beauvillier certainly has the tools in his box to do so.
Despite his 5-11ish, 185 pound frame Beuvillier can handle himself on the ice. Since his draft day, the forward has added 15 pounds or so. A little more muscle couldn’t hurt. Beauvillier is very fast on his skates and can create either for himself or his teammates. More of that creativity needs to show itself for him to continue playing in the top-six.
The kid is due for a breakout season. As a matter of fact, he’s one of my fantasy sleepers. If Beauvillier plays the way he is capable of, there is no reason why he couldn’t supplant Anders Lee on the first line. The keyword being “if,” but the guy in the following video has some game.
