EWB Football Predictions – September 7-8, Giants, Jets, Rutgers, SNF

Pittsburgh at New England
Matthew Travis
In the first Sunday night football game of 2019, the reigning Super Bowl champion Patriots will get a win over the new-look Steelers. The Patriots, a team that lost one of their best players, Rob Gronkowski, look a bit different now with the additions of Josh Gordon and Ben Watson, who unfortunately for the Patriots is suspended for the first four games of the season. New England wins 24-20.

The New England Patriots will handle the Steelers in a fun game as both teams will trade offensive blows throughout. Tom Brady will utilize his wide receivers more without the services of Rob Gronkowski leading to a big game from Josh Gordon. Ben Roethlisberger will have a big game with plenty of connections to JuJu Smith-Schuster creating similar chemistry as he did for years with Antonio Brown. Patriots win on ring night 42-35.
Dan Schmelzer
The Patriots have had the Steelers number throughout the Brady/Belichick era, going 11-4 against them since 2002. The Patriots are also 5-1 in that span against the Steelers at home. Simply put, more often than not, Brady and the Patriots take care of business against Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers.

In this one, I see the Patriots leaning on their running game to control the clock and counting on their defense to keep Roethlisberger and company in check. Belichick will work to take JuJu Smith-Schuster away, and if he succeeds like he usually does, where will the Steelers be able to go? Pittsburgh is a good team, but the Patriots are better. They walk away with a Week 1 victory on Sunday night.

In the history of the Belichick/ Brady era, this may be the best overall team they’ve had. The Pats are the class of the NFL this season. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, has to pick up the pieces after losing their two best offensive weapons the past two seasons.
New England will score early and often while stopping Big Ben enough times to make the Steelers play catchup most of the game. Notice will be sent to the rest of the NFL, that the Patriots intend to vigorously defend their Super Bowl title. Pat Patriot’s boys get off to a good start winning by 10 or more points.
