Carmelo’s fit

Melo may have a great relationship with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, but that is all that is needed for him to fit with the team? We saw what happened in Oklahoma City and Houston.

If he were to be signed, Anthony instantly becomes the second option on offense behind Kyrie Irving this upcoming season. However, Coach Atkinson can easily place Melo as the sixth or seventh-man, which must be accepted.

The question Anthony needs to answer for himself is: Will Durant and Chandler’s (temporary) absence be enough for Melo to revitalize his career? He would surely have an opportunity to do so, on a Nets team that played unselfish basketball in 2018-19. Last season, the Nets had six players who averaged more than ten points and about three others who nearly hit that mark.

So Melo would add to the offensive spacing and take ample pressure off of Kyrie, LeVert, and even Spencer Dinwiddie, who are expected to be the team’s leading scorers this upcoming season. Melo hasn’t had immense success playing alongside other stars, so he will have to any chance with the Brooklyn Nets different.

It is important to note that besides his short tenure in Houston, Melo played at least seventy-two games in his last three seasons, including seventy-eight games in his lone season in Oklahoma City. So we know that Anthony is durable. But will his offensive production still be there?

Of course it will. Simply because Melo is one of the purest scorers the game has ever seen. It will instantly propel the Nets’ chances to contend next season if he is able to fit right into Atkinson’s system.

Firstly, Melo would have to be more than just a contributor on offense. He must provide veteran leadership, be a reliable defender, and be flexible as to his role in the rotation. In actuality, these are the requirements for a player to join any team.
