New York Yankees can’t lose focus on World Series goals
The New York Yankees stumbled through their road trip in Boston as they seek to find ways to win games without scoring large amounts of runs.
The numbers for the New York Yankees offense has been outstanding as of late, but the complete opposite can be said about their starting pitching. The Yankees pitching rotation was clobbered during road games against the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox.
As good as the offense has been it still needed every bit of the runs produced as starting pitchers James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, Domingo German, and CC Sabathia were dominated. These outings further spread the trade rumor mill fire as pitchers are such a hot commodity heading into postseason play. Marcus Stroman surprisingly being dealt to the New York Mets was a reliable option as the Yankees continue to look for depth.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone has put plenty of the blame on the team needing some rest as they were off last night and look forward to another on Thursday. Boone also addressed the possible returns of two valuable pitchers to the Yankees lineup while speaking with reporters.
"“Coming out of the second off day, I think there are 19 [games] in 17 [days],’’ said Boone, whose club has doubleheaders at home against the Red Sox on Saturday and the Orioles on Aug. 12. “It will become quite the grind again.’’"

"“He’ll be after [Severino]. As when that will be, it will probably be in the next couple of weeks,’’ Boone said. “[Severino] was building up when we shut Dellin down. I would say [Severino] hits the mound before Dellin.’’"
The Yankees are heading into August with a nice cushion in the AL East but can’t get too comfortable. Teams are beginning to load up on talent and exploit the “Bombers” pitching staff that eventually leads to an overworked bullpen. Luis Severino and Dellin Betances returning will be almost like picking up two top tier players in a trade.
The looming return of slugger Giancarlo Stanton remains a severe thought as the Yankees have yet to see their squad at full strength. Boone will continue to have tough questions to answer as the calendar creeps closer to Fall.
