Something New York Mets fans thought unthinkable when the 2019 season began is looking more likely. The Amazins are poised to trade away Noah Syndergaard.

In the winter of 2012, the New York Mets, realizing they needed to rebuild, traded their reigning Cy Young Award-winning pitcher R.A. Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays for a package of young players. The package coming back to New York included Noah Syndergaard. Once again the Amazins find themselves in need of a rebuild and the story comes full circle. Thor is on the trade block as the Mets try to add the next generation of star players to their organization.

There is a storm brewing over Queens and the dark cloud keeps growing and growing. It is a cloud that does not dissipate. It is blowing is at the calendar gets closer and closer to the July 31 MLB trade deadline. So many scenarios are being presented by fans, beat writers, and national reporters, it’s overwhelming.

This the time of year where the Mets are getting the kind of news Met fans did not want to read and hear, sellers rather buyers. An admission that the plan new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen put in place when the assembled this team in the offseason has failed miserably.

So what are the Mets going to do? Are they packing up their tent and sending home the circus acts because their rivals brought forth a better show? Well, laugh clown, laugh. But behind that laugh for New York Mets fans as Smokey Robinson would say are the “tears of a clown.”

Another year of shortcomings. but I see a better show coming. I see that cloud shrinking and eventually moving away from Citi Field. Sometimes teams have to take a step back to take two steps forward.
