If the Bills want to have a chance at the playoffs in 2019, they must have a 3-3 record or better against division opponents.

Not including the divisional winner, which has been the Patriots in each of the past five seasons, we have seen only two playoff berths taken by AFC East teams, one of which was the Bills in 2017. If the Bills want to be successful in 2019 they must first focus on improving from their 2018 season. One must-do item on their checklist is to play .500 or better in the AFC East. something much easier said than done.

In 2017 the Bills went 3-3 in the division and made the playoffs. Last year they went 2-4 in the division and failed to make the playoffs. Is this a coincidence? No, it is not. To have a successful season, a team has to be successful within their division.

In 2018 there was not a single team with worse than a 3-3 intra-division record, that made the playoffs. It’s a proven fact that to make the NFL playoffs or have a successful season, winning at least half of the division games has to happen.

Because the Buffalo Bills failed to do so in 2018, they failed to make the playoffs finishing 6-10 on the year. Unfortunately for the Bills, there is a perennial Super Bowl contender, the New England Patriots, in their division, On the other hand, they also share AFC east with Miami and the New York Jets.

The Bills should win at least two of the six games every season and there is no reason why they can’t win four. If the Bills manage to win a game against the Patriots this season there should be absolutely no excuse for the Bills to have worse than a 3-3 record against divisional opponents.
