The New York Knicks’ adventurous offseason has had many critics from around the basketball world. Former Knick Charles Oakley can also be added to that list.

The relationship between the New York Knicks and their legendary former All-Star Charles Oakley has been strained immensely over the years. The most notable and infamous situation occurred about three years ago when Oakley was escorted out by Madison Square Garden security while attending as a fan during a Knicks game.

Oakley was back in New York City this past weekend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY coaching his BIG3 basketball team. The Killer 3’s came up short in their game, but Oakley had time afterward to speak with Empire Writes Back and other members of the media.

What are your thoughts on the crop of tough players the Knicks are putting together this offseason?

"“I don’t know what goes on in that camp, you’re asking the wrong guy because I’m not over there on a regular basis, I don’t know what they are trying to build. I think they signed a lot of guys at the same position so I hope they can gel together, I hope they can so the fans can come out and see a winning team. They drafted the young guy, they signed the Morris twin (Marcus Morris), Portis (Bobby Portis), Julius Randle so we gotta see. Do they have an A player on their team? I don’t think so. They got maybe one B and a lot of Cs.”"

The Knicks whiffed on signing marquee free agents Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving who opted instead to go to the Brooklyn Nets. The significant additions from the Nets were praised by Oakley comparing the players to playing the lottery.

"“They hit the Mega Millions and the Powerball.”"

The relationship between the Knicks and Oakley has James Dolan in the middle of it because he is the owner and hasn’t been fond of the former two-time All-Defensive team member. It was apparent, however, from the interview that Oakley’s passion is still with the Knicks’ legacy and its many fans.

It will be interesting to see if the two men can work out their differences and fans can finally have Oakley back in the fold with the rest of the legendary Knicks alumni.
