Brooklyn Nets officially sign free agent Kevin Durant
On the first night of free agency, one of the top free agents has announced his decision and he will be headed to the Brooklyn Nets.
Kevin Durant has announced his decision and he will be joining the Brooklyn Nets. Durant to the Nets is something that has been talked about for quite some time and it is now official. With this, the Nets will likely be contenders for the next several years.
When healthy, Kevin Durant is a top-five player in the NBA and the Nets have the chance to pair him with Kyrie Irving. With Durant and Irving, Brooklyn will be one of the best teams in the league and will undoubtedly be the most talented team in the East.
Yes, the Nets are going to have to wait a year to make this duo a reality, but once it is a reality Nets fans everywhere won’t be able to stop talking about them.
Here is what the Nets lineup may look like going into the 2020-21 season:
PG: Kyrie Irving
SG: Joe Harris
SF: Caris LeVert
PF: Kevin Durant
C: Deandre Jordan
This is a lineup that could legitimately win a championship for Brooklyn. Now, this might sound like a stretch seeing that the Brooklyn Nets finished eighth in the East last season and lost in the first round in five games, but this is a starting lineup with only two players who were on the Nets last season.
This lineup won’t take the court together until the 2020-21 season, but the good news is Irving, Harris, LeVert, and Jordan will play together in 2019-20 giving them time to build some chemistry.
In one night the Nets managed to bring in two of the biggest named free agents who have three championships between them and then they also reeled in Deandre Jordan.
With that, making the NBA Finals next season is the goal, but it is not Finals or bust at least in 2019-20. The reason for this is because Durant won’t take the court next season due to an Achilles injury suffered in the 2019 Finals.
But once Durant is back, it will be Finals or bust for the Brooklyn Nets. Tonight has been the biggest night in Nets history and their fans should be very excited about what is to come in the next couple of years.
The addition of Durant makes the Nets serious contenders for years to come, but before they get there it will take a year of waiting. So Nets fans, don’t get too annoyed when the Nets don’t exactly live up to your hopes, because it’s only up from here.
