For the New York Islanders in 2018-2019, Robin Lehner’s looming free agency was always a big talking point. Along with fellow netminder Sergei Bobrovsky, Lehner is a hot commodity. Here are some options for the Islanders in net who are not either of these two.

The New York Islanders had two absolute studs in between the pipes in 2018-2019. For Robin Lehner, he was so impressive he was rewarded with a Vezina nomination and that is just what he did on the ice, we know the fantastic story and bravery for what he is overcoming off it.

However, this article is not about that. That story, and his rise to a Masterson award and being an inspiration to many is bigger than hockey, this story is about hockey and its landscape and Lehner is about to change that immensely…

Although Lehner did not win the Vezina Trophy, simply the nomination could not have come at a better time for him. Now, he is set to hit the free agent market, barring an extension happening in the coming days. That makes him one of the best goalies available, and good free agent goalies don’t hit the market often.

Lehner, along with a goalie who has actually won the Vezina (multiple times), Sergei Bobrovsky are far and away, the two best free agent goalies available. So, if the Islanders fail to land either of them, which you would think they are likely to get at least one, who could they get?

There are plenty of options to help answer this question. All I know is the Isles can’t mess up finding their goalie. Whether it be Lehner or someone else because, in the Lou/Trotz system, the goaltenders are wildly important.

So, without further ado, here are the Islanders potential options in between the pipes not named Bobrovsky or Lehner.
