New York Giants fans booing Jones is misplaced anger, blame Gettleman
By Ed Stein
Recently New York Giants rookie quarterback was Daniel Jones at Yankee Stadium. He was met by a round of boos. The fans deserve to boo the sixth overall pick, but Jones is the wrong target.
New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones decided to take in a Yankees game recently. Why not? It’s the House that Ruth built. If I was from out of town and had some time on my hands, I’d do the same thing as most sports fans probably would as well. When he was announced to the crowd, the fans promptly greeted him with a chorus of boos.
Welcome to New York, Kid!
Big Blue fans won’t begrudge anyone for booing the sixth overall selection of this year’s draft. It was a horrible selection by the New York Giants. However, Daniel Jones had nothing to do with who drafted him and where. Booing him is like booing the waiter at a restaurant for a bad meal. The waiter was just there, it was the chef who screwed up.
Those fans at Yankee Stadium got this one wrong. If the New York Giants would have selected Jones 17th overall, the worst reaction he’d have gotten that night was the sound of the number seven train leaving the station. More than likely, he would have gotten a polite round of applause.
Instead, the young man got a huge no-confidence vote from the people who follow his new team. To his credit, Jones has said all the right things. Appearing on the Rich Eisen Show, he responded to the boos with the following:
"“I certainly don’t pay a whole lot of attention to it. You’re aware of it. I’m focused on what we’re doing here and focused on trying to practice as well as I could these past six weeks and show some progress over these six weeks,” he said. So, at the end of the day, I’m grateful to be part of this franchise, get this opportunity and looking forward to keeping it going.”"
Jones’ comments make him look much more genuine the man who drafted him
