Danny Green may have a mutual interest with the Brooklyn Nets
As free agency quickly approaches, the Brooklyn Nets and guard Danny Green may have a keen interest in combining forces based on past relationships.
The Brooklyn Nets are still focused on luring in the big prizes of this offseason’s free agency class with the names Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving spoken about prominently. It might be an under the radar deal with a proven champion in Danny Green who has ties with the Nets front office.
Green had a productive season for the world champion Toronto Raptors averaging 10.3 points per game and providing exceptional defense on other team’s top guards. He has continued to be a threat from three-point range consistently ranking amongst the leagues best percentage-wise and clutch shots throughout the playoff run. The Raptors will be looking to try and keep their core together, but their main priority is, of course, Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard leaving many to speculate how much money will be available to keep the role players intact?
The Nets come into play not just for the usual Leonard talk but for possibly needing depth at the shooting guard position. The recent trade of Allen Crabbe opens up a potential roster spot for a knockdown shooter not named Joe Harris in Brooklyn. Green is an exciting fit because of his necessary skill set in today’s three-point crazed NBA but his relationship with Nets current general manager Sean Marks.
Marks served as an assistant coach and eventually assistant general manager while in the San Antonio Spurs organization. Green played with the Spurs during this time and shared his thoughts on the Nets organization while being interviewed recently on a New York City morning radio show.
"“I Know some of the guys there, Sean Marks was a Spurs guy, It seems like they doing very well progression, they were a playoff team, and things are going well for them now.”"
Green is a Long Island, New York native, and even though he is interested in staying in Toronto, it seems like he has been paying attention to the Nets movements. The praise for Marks’ job in Brooklyn has been heard around the league, and there is no denying the strength of the Spurs regime influence over the years.
Free agency is just around the corner, and players like D’Angelo Russell are still undecided on what their next move will be as we await more dominos to fall. The Nets are still in the Iriving discussion, and that outcome will more than likely determine Green and many other players fates.
