New York Mets: Mets’ path to improvement is incredibly daunting
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
Starting pitching is not the issue right now. They have their questions, such as one of their mainstays, Noah Syndergaard on the injured list, but the unit does their job. The problem is the New York Mets’ bullpen. Due to the relievers poor performances, they wasted their early, more winnable part of the schedule.
The Amazins were unable to sweep every game against teams like the Marlins, Giants, Rockies, and Reds. Now they will have to fight tooth and nail to stay afloat against teams like the Cubs, Braves, Phillies, and Yankees. In other words, they didn’t manhandle the teams they should have and face an uphill climb against some of the leagues best.
As the Mets continue to struggle, their current 11-game, road-trip is inconvenient. So is the fact that they don’t have a day off again until July 1st. Unfortunately, the New York Mets have pretty much wasted the entire season getting to this point. And the point they are at now is tenuous at best.
Their path to getting better isn’t exactly straightforward. The team can’t just go out and expect the bullpen to be better overnight. They are what they are, as bad as the unit may be. Ideally, they can only go up from here, and that might result in winning games at a slightly more reasonable pace, but the issues remain the same.
