New York Knicks fans fear the worst this offseason
Things continue to get worse for the New York Knicks, and it doesn’t appear as if they have a solution to the issues available.
The past couple of years and specifically the last month, have been gut-wrenching to be a New York Knicks fan and it just keeps getting worse. Two months ago Knicks fans were excited for what felt like the first time in a long time. They were going to draft Zion Williamson, and then they were going to sign Kevin Durant and then they’d sign Kyrie Irving.
Well, the master plan took a big hit during the draft lottery when the Pelicans, not the Knicks, received the first overall pick and the rights to Zion Williamson. Then things with Kyrie Irving kept getting worse, and now it appears as if the Knicks are out of the running and then Kevin Durant got injured and seems to be out for the 2019-20 season entirely.
But what about the Knicks? They have the third overall pick, but unfortunately, that’s about all they have going for them. It is now impossible for the Knicks to get Anthony Davis as the Lakers traded a large package for the center, which means this offseason appears to be yet another waste.
Unless the Knicks can somehow pull a cat out of their hat and convince Kawhi Leonard to leave Toronto following their first championship in franchise history, the Knicks don’t appear to be making a splash this season.
Kemba Walker is also a free agent, but following his comments the other day, New York doesn’t seem to be in the running.
So what does that mean for the Knicks? How do they get out of this deep hole they have dug themselves into?
It’s going to take a while, they’ve been in the said hole for quite some time, but in reality, there is quite some time to go. Unless the Knicks end up dealing their third pick, they will be taking RJ Barrett in this week’s draft, which in my opinion, has one of the highest ceilings in this draft.
That being said, the Knicks have a guy who has serious potential and could help the Knicks going forward. However, unless he has one of the greatest rookie seasons in NBA History, the Knicks will not be a contender for several years. So the Knicks are forced to look towards the next offseason once again. If Kevin Durant ends up opting into his player option with the Warriors, he will be a free agent next offseason rather than this offseason, which gives the Knicks potential once again.
Hopefully, by next offseason, the Knicks will be able to advertise RJ Barrett as a very talented player and player superstars will want to play with because of his potential. This would give superstars a reason to come to New York as there isn’t a reason at the moment.
Unfortunately for Knicks fans, this offseason appears to be over, before it even started.
